Allowing God to be Father Not King?

Father to the fatherless.
Comforter.
He gives good and perfect gifts.
All according to Scripture, God is our Father, but what happens when Comforter, Peace, Giver of gifts, and more gives us rules or decrees or wants to send us on assignment? Do we allow Him to be King?
